Thank god someone invented the wheel

We're a group of people who enjoy going out and trying new challenges on the bike. And we thought it would be nice to share some of the beautiful stuff we see. Enjoy.

La Paz February 2011///The road of death

This February, 2 of us landed in Bolivia for a 1month trip. It was
not a dedicated cycling tour, but as we were in La Paz, we signed
up for the famous ride of death. This was the first time I tried out a
down hill bike and, sure thing, it was all downhill.

We set off at 4600m high to end near Coroico at 1100m. The decent
took about 4 hours with breaks here and there along the road. The
scale and scenery is stunning. Being at such heights near the equator
makes the climate and temperatures change rapidly with altitude change,
with arid rocks at the peak and hot jungle at the bottom.

The scariest part is imagining how trucks and coaches went up this road to
reach La Paz before the new road.

On a general note, I found it a little hard to ride as  a group where camera
brakes were a little bit imposed at times. but overall, the ride was a pleasure
to the eye.

Road of death? No, more like fun, although our guide did manage to
fall off his bike and knock himself out, so make sure you have good
brakes.

There is no doubt that if you fall off, it's bad times

Starting off and viewing the first valley
